The symbol - Sankofa

Each season takes its name from an Adinkra symbol - the visual language of the Akan people of Ghana. These symbols carry meaning that words often can’t. They have been woven into Kente, stamped into cloth, and carved into stools for centuries. We carry them forward.

Ikan begins with a grandmother from Takoradi, on Ghana’s coast. In the 1960s she studied fashion at Central St Martins in London and came back with a way of seeing fabric as language.

She passed all of it down. The Ankara prints, the silhouettes, the knowledge of how cloth should move and sit and last. Ikan is what her grandchildren made of that inheritance.
